Then He Gives You The Question For Whenever You Feel Lost…
The moment of feeling unsure or impatient about where your life is going is the cue. Here are Steve’s exact words on the track:
“Whenever you feel unsure or impatient about where your life is going, you take one slow breath, you hold your inner compass, and you ask, ‘What is one small thing I can do today that matters to me?’
And you do that one thing.”
Dr. Steve G. Jones, on the Discover Your Life’s Purpose track
That’s the Brass Compass Question. Next to the grand question of a life’s purpose, it can look almost too small.
That’s a fair reaction. A single question asked on a Tuesday is not going to reveal your destiny, and Steve never claims it will.
What it does is replace waiting with doing. Someone who does one small thing that matters every day is already walking a path, and the track makes the point that the path gets clearer with every step: “Each time you act on what matters to you, the needle grows steadier and the way ahead grows clearer.”
The track also gives you the compass’s points. In a silence, Steve asks three words to come to you, three things that matter to you more than anything else, perhaps family, freedom or kindness, perhaps learning, creativity or faith. Those are your values, and from then on, at every choice large or small, you take one slow breath and ask, “Which choice fits what matters most to me?”
